Project Life 2015 | January // Kelsey, Especially

Ahhhhhh! Look who’s back with Project Life pages?! The chick who was adamant about not using Project Life as a primary memorykeeping system this year. Well, not really by choice, people. My original idea for how I was going to document this year didn’t work out and I never came up with a Plan B, so I winded right back up where I left off last year because there’s no way I wasn’t going to document this year at all, even if it meant using a system that doesn’t really excite me anymore to do so, which is exactly what it meant. Blah. Here are my pages for January 2015.

↑ Jan. 1 – 4 | Nothing too exciting this week. A bunch of photos from New Years, and of course a photo of “taco nachos,” the kids’ fave dinner right now. Also, Emma learned to read sight words this week, which is what she’s doing with RJ in the top circle photo, and Shannon and I took the kids to the pool over the weekend for the first of three swim days in January.

↑ Jan. 5 – 11 | We had a snow “storm” on Tuesday that wasn’t really a storm but for which the entire region was completely unprepared and it fucked up everything for two days. It sucked. Over the weekend Bri’s grandma (on her dad’s side) dropped off past-due Christmas gifts for Emma and Madden – Emma got a fancy blue dress that’s she obsessed with so I hooked her up with a little photo shoot, which she loved. Bri was over this weekend so I finally got to gift her her own room as late Christmas gift (still need to update y’all on that, I know), and we celebrated our halfiversary on Sunday with the first “Ice Cream for Dinner” of the year on Sunday.

↑ Jan. 12 – 18 | Madden had trouble sleeping all the way through the night at the beginning of the month, so I included a few photos of one of his sleepovers with me in my bed to document that. Shannon competed in Cold War 4, Emma baked her own brownies all by herself (which she was so, so proud of), and I had to take all of Madden’s clothes out of this room because he changes his outfits so frequently that it’s beginning to interrupt normal activities, like bed- and nap time. Also, my “test” Artifact Uprising book arrived on Friday of this week and I was NOT impressed.

↑ Jan. 19 – 25 | The big thing this week was Shannon moving in. Also, RJ brought home the coolest-ever wireless Bluetooth speaker to use during our front-yard workouts. Emma continued to prove how beastmode she is at puzzles (seriously, she’s SO GOOD) and it was Madden’s turn to bake his own recipe this week – he made blueberry muffins.

↑ Jan. 26 – Feb. 1 | It snowed again this week – enough for the kids to actually play around in it a bit. I took a much-needed break from life at Barnes & Noble on the way home from work one day this week, and knocked out a rough front-yard WOD – in the snow/sleet/hail. On Saturday I took the kids to the indoor trampoline park, then on Sunday I hit up yoga with a CrossFit friend in the morning, bought Madden got some new “exercise” pants in the afternoon (which I’m hoping gets him off the “I’m going to wear pajamas everyday” kick that he’s been on ever since daycare had Pajama Day at the beginning of the month), and watched the Super Bowl in the evening. That top right photo is my favorite from this week, even though it’s impossible to tell here that it’s a view of both Emma and Madden sleeping sideways on their beds with their butts up in the air. So effing adorable.

A few things:

  1. My January pages span 5 weeks. The first “week” of the month/year was only four days long, I know. But whatever. I didn’t want to cram 11 days into one layout so instead I spread those four days out over their own spread. I do what I want.
  2. Weeks 1 and 5 got fucked up. My printer ran out of black ink and started printing photos that looked reeeaaaalllll weird. And even after I had the cartridge refilled, it was printing everything with a green tint over it so I said “fuck it!” and had the last few photos printed at Costco on actual photo paper, but for some reason the Costco photos all came out way darker than they looked on my screen and I basically hate them but not more than I hate trying to make my printer print the right colors, so I stuck with ’em. Ugh.
  3. I started with Week 4, then did Week 3, Week 2, Week 5 and Week 1. The first two weeks that I did are my favorite(s) for January. I’m pretty unimpressed with the other ones (although I’m really digging all the bright blue in January’s pages), and still pretty uninspired by Project Life in general this year. But it’s what I’ve got so I’m doing my best to make it work.

How’s memorykeeping working out for you so far this year?
